One vs. None

If you can’t eat one, don’t spy it
If you can’t eat one, don’t try it
If you can’t eat one, don’t buy it

Of course you could always try buying one.

One.

Just one.

My spies are watching you.

Do You Want To Play A Game?

Do you want to play a game?

This was a famous line from a 1980's movie. Was it:
  1. Back To School
  2. Red Dawn
  3. War Games
  4. Beverly Hills Cop

I'll let you Google the answer. It will be a few more minutes you're not eating.

But when was the last time you played a game? Was it an indoor or outdoor game? Do you have an old favorite game? A new favorite game? Have you engaged others in your game? Could you? Should you?

A game just might be the answer to that next time you're about to turn to food.

So dust off the game board, dig up some chalk, or blow up that beach ball. Get oout and play a game today. It's going to be a beautiful day.

And speaking of games, don't forget June 21st is Recess At Work Day. Don't forget to tell the boss!

Just Doing My Part

This post today has nothing to do with getting or remaining Skinny.....................

Are you concerned about Global Warming?

I am.

Well I think I have the answer to it. And you can make a difference. This will have even more impact than those “Don’t Buy Gas Days”

Here is what we need to do:
  • At 7:00 AM (your local time) on Tuesday May 29th everyone in the world should turn on their home air conditioning systems to the highest setting possible. If you do not own air conditioning, fans are a great substitute.
  • Then at 7:00 PM (your local time) everyone should open their windows and let the cool air out.
Poof! We’ve fixed Global Warming – or at least lowered the temperature a degree or two.

Together we can make a difference.

Please refer everyone you know to this website so they can read my strategy. If you don’t your house might fall off into the ocean someday very soon.

BBQ Weekend!

It's BBQ Weekend! What's on your menu? Hot Dogs? Hamburgers? High Fat Salads?

How about some Grilled Thai Shrimp? Or Raspberry Chipotle Chicken? Maybe a Cranberry Pork Tenderloin? How about a side of Citrus Quinoa Salad?

Well those are the highlights of my BBQ tomorrow.

What's on your menu?

I dare you. I double dare you. I triple dare you. Change your menu this year. Surprise your guests. Offer them something new, different, and healthier. Be a little creative. Put a little effort into your party. Your family and friends will put you on a pedestal!

And you’ll be one step closer to that coconut-shell bikini.

Enjoy your holiday weekend! Eat and drink responsibly. Play a lot!

Highs and Lows

Isn't it amazing how when things are great, when we are on a high, when life is treating us good, it is easy to stick to our diet, our healthy way of eating?

Then when life sucks, all hell breaks loose, you experience bad news, sad news and disappointing news, your diet gets tossed out the window. After all since we're feeling crappy let's just make it worse.

Paragraph two has been my week thus far. (Now I do not want pity; I just want to make a point.)

In one hour I need to leave to go speak to a corporate group on the topic of growing their businesses. Do you realize how much one can eat in one hour? I am sure you do. And they are feeding me lunch. But I am sure everyone reading this has had two lunches at some point in their life.

Well I think a nice leisurely drive to their meeting might be in order. I'm out the door as soon as I post this. The Costco size box of Yogurt Cheerios is looking way too friendly right now.

But I do ask you this...................Next time your life is sucking, what can you do to get away from the food?

Please think about it now, so the plan is in place.

I HATE THE GIRL SCOUTS!!!

I hate the Girls Scouts.

I hate them.

I hate them. I wish my two nieces would just grow up already and stop selling those stupid cookies.

I hate the Girl Scouts.

It is their fault I ate almost a full sleeve of thin mints last night.

Huh? What?

Well you see, my little puppy had a fight with a cat last night. She lost. Now she has an eye injury. So being frustrated and upset I did what I know how to do best, but only do on a rare occasion - I turned to food. Thin Mints.

Yes folks, all these years later I can still use food to fix things. Or so I think. Maybe it's time I open up my copy of Yes You're Fat I Like You Anyway and pick up a few helpful reminders. My baby still has an injury and I'm feeling like crap this morning. The cookies fixed things, right?

But I do know this. A little bit of reading and a little bit of writing about my feelings usually helps make it all go away and clears my mind.

So I'm moving on. I did it. It's over. There's nothing I can do. The pup will get better.

Do you ever use food to fix the ills of your life? What strategies do you use to move on?

And as for the Girl Scouts, I don't hate them. It was my choice to buy the cookies. It was my choice to leave them visible. It was my choice to eat the cookies.

I start the day right.....................

I've heard it. I used to say it. I still hear it from people.

"I start the day right and then it falls apart in the evening."

So I began istening to what people considered "starting the day right." In most cases I wanted to slit my wrists. Fat-free Cottage cheese and fruit is not starting the day right for me. Plain Oatmeal is not starting the day right for me. A smoothie is not starting the day right for me.

Now don't get me wrong, I eat those things. I eat them because I enjoy them. I eat them in amounts that will keep me satisfied for several hours. I eat them doctored up so they make me feel like I am not on a diet. For example I'll put some shredded coconut in that cottage cheese; some pumpkin and maple syrup in that oatmeal.

And if I am not in the mood for those things I eat pancakes or waffles; sausage and eggs.

There's a difference between starting the day right eating foods you think you should eat and starting the day eating what you enjoy.

And I often wonder if that is why it falls apart in the evening for so many? What do you think?

I think we should be on a never ending quest to REALLY enjoy our meals.

BBQ to Benefit Your Butt, Boobs and Belly

There's a long weekend ahead of us. For many, that means fire up the BBQ.

Is it going to be the same old hot dogs, hamburgers, and high fat salads?

Or will you consider something new, unique and perhaps, dare I might say, "healthier"????

Surprise your family and friends this year. Consider taking your BBQ to the next level. Raise the bar for your 2007 BBQ season right now. I'm starting mine with a gourmet marinated pork loin.

And keep it there all season.

Your Butt, Boobs and Belly just might benefit.

Better Watch Those Carbs

She buys low/no carb bread.
She buys low/no carb cereal.
No carb this.
No carb that.

She's watching every gram of carb she eats.

And why?

SO SHE CAN EAT GIRL SCOUT COOKIES!!!!!

Doesn't surprise me. All this low/no carb stuff has only one benefit - it has no taste; which will keep me from overeating.

Unless of course there are boxes of Girl Scout Cookies in your house.

I think I'll stick to eating what I want in smaller portions and choosing better carbs. What do you think?

I'm off to eat my Yogurt Cheerios.

Fat Deserves a Vacation Too!

I remember a long time ago reading a quote/line that says Fat Does Not Take A Vacation.

Well too bad, as far as I am concerned. It should.

I just returned from vacation and I know my weight is up. I know why my weight is up. I know exactly how it happened, where it happened and why it happened. And I do not care.

What I do care about is knowing I have all the resources to get back in control - today. That is what is important. Knowing that a little backslide is not permanent damage. That is what is important.

Summer is fast approaching and perhaps you too will be vacationing. Don't let your weight issue be the issue that spoils your vacation. I know you have the resources to pull it all together.

It's good to be back and writing again!

Born to Be Free; Not Fat

So how is Salsa Month going for you? Have you done any experimenting with that side/condiment we call "free."

Do you or any dieters you know ever talk about "free" food? You hear or say things like "this food is free, it doesn't count, or I can have as much as I want."

Dieters seem to always be looking for free.

How about looking to "be" free? Perhaps being free of always looking for food - even the free stuff. Perhaps free of fat - and all those terrible feelings that go along with it.

Each day is your opportunity to be free; free from fat; free from this thing that holds you back from living - this thing we call being overweight or obese.

So today I challenge you to do something freeing. Here are some suggestions:
  • Toss the fat clothes
  • Take up a new exercise
  • Say no to an offer for food
  • Start planning that trip/vacation you've been wanting to take "when" you lose your weight. Pick the Date!!!!
  • Start an herb or veggie garden. (Please do not include "that" herb)

Now Go. Be Free. Get The Hell Outta Here.

Push-Ups Over The Pacific

It's a long flight from Cincinnati to Honolulu. I was bored. I couldn't sleep. I thought I would come up with an exercise routine. So in addition to walking the plane a few too many times I decided to do Push-Ups Over The Pacific.

It's really very simple. You extend your legs backwards. You lean forward and grab the armrests of the the two seats on the aisle and push up and down. Do as many as you can until it hurts. Then do one more.

Next, you turn around and do tricep exercises by doing this feet forward, grabbing the arm rest and lowering and raising yourself. Do this until it hurts. Then do one more.

So next time you're flying and you need to amuse yourself............how about a bit of exercise. It'll help work off those cookies they keep coming around with.

Let's Do The Salsa!!!

And I'm not talking dancing.

So did you know that it is National Salsa Month.

Did you know there are many different varieties of salsa?

Did you know that there are tons of uses for salsa - even for a binge as one person recently shared with me? Yes, she ate a jar of salsa.

Do you know that salsa is virtually a "free" food on most diets?

So here is my challenge to you..........................

Try to use salsa as many of the remaining days of this month as possible. Use it in different ways. And return back to this post and click on the
comments link below and let us know YOUR use. You don't need a Blogger account, just post anonymously.

HAPPY SALSA MONTH!!!!
