Did you go snackless?

So did you go snackless yesterday? I hope so.

But I did receive an email from someone asking why?

Quite simply I suggested it for couple of reasons:

  1. To have you look at whether you eat because you're hungry or if it is a habit.
  2. To get you to realize that traditional snacking i.e. chips, cookies, (even when they're low fat) can be replaced with better choices such as fruits and vegetables.

For example, in my fridge was a mango about to go to mango hell. By not turning to the popcorn, I ate the mango. Yesterday afternoon I also muched on grapes and green beans. Alternatively I might have grabbed a handful of crackers left over from a cocktail party I hosted a few weeks ago.

And by some amazing act of god I made it through the evening without a Marshmallow Peep.

So if you didn't go snackless yesterday, how about giving it a shot very soon.

No Snacks Today

These things are to die for

One afternoon Mary was telling Joe about this great new bakery that opened up on the other side of town. Mary went on and on about the chocolate éclairs.

"They're stuffed with the best almond flavored cream you will ever eat. The chocolate is the finest you will ever taste" Mary explained.

Joe loves chocolate éclairs. Looking at his waistline, he was trying to ignore Mary's descriptive words when she said the words we have all heard at one point in our life, perhaps we have even spoken them. She said "These things are to die for."

Joe couldn't take it any longer. He asked Mary where the bakery was. He hopped on his bicycle. He started riding across town, pedaling ever so quickly. He was trying to work off enough calories to eat two of those "to die for éclairs."

Joe was thinking about those éclairs and paying attention to nothing around him. He could taste them already.

Joe was hit and killed by a bus. Mary was right; they were to die for.

It's Prince Spaghetti Day!

Hey, it's Wednesday and it's Prince Spaghetti Day. Anyone old enough to remember that one?

Well I thought I would address this whole "I'm not eating carbs anymore."

Let me just put it simply..............

I like sex. Sex can also kill you if you're not careful. Should you give it up or play safe?

Well the same goes for the whackos who are giving up their favorite carbs.

Moderation. Small amounts. As part of a meal; not the meal.

Get it? Got it? Please tell me you do. Because let's face it, are you really going to become celibate when it comes to bread and pasta?

I LOVE YOU

Who do you love?

Your kids? Spouse? Parents? Partner?

Who do you love?

Food?

Do you love food? Do you love greasy, fatty, sugary food so much that you are willing to make someone an orphan? A Widow? A grieving mother? A lonely partner?

Who do you love?

Now go eat right and get off your big ole butt and do some exercise.

Show them you really love them.

DOING makes for success

DOING makes for success.

THINKING about doing makes for frustration, unhappiness and a destiny of being fat and miserable.

TRYING to do is a half-ass effort. You and I both know you can do better.

KNOWING what to do is denial.

DOING MAKES FOR SUCCESS!

So is there something you KNOW you need to THINK about TRYING?

Or should you just start DOING something regularly to step up, improve or start your weight loss journey?

HAPPY SATURDAY!!! I'm going out to play.

The Lettuce Capital of the World!

Do you know where the "Winter Lettuce Capital of the World" is?

Do you know there is a celebration that begins today called Lettuce Days; honoring all the varieties of winter lettuce?

Do you know there are hundreds of different lettuce varieties?

Do you know how easy it is to grow lettuce? Even I was capable of that one.

Let's join the people of Yuma, AZ today and eat some lettuce; perhaps a variety you've never tried?

Please leave the dressing on the side!!!!

Where do you spend your time?

My neighbor pulled out of his driveway about 7:00 this morning. He does most mornings - dressed in gym clothes; work clothes in hand. Did I say he does this most mornings. He is consistent. When you look at him it shows he has been spending time at the gym.

When people look at you where do they notice you have been spending time?

  1. The gym
  2. The all-you-can-eat buffet
  3. The salad bar
  4. Your Kitchen
  5. On your butt in front of the TV or computer

Where DO you spend your time to best meet your weight goals? Better yet, where do you need to start spending more time? Less time?

Are You Waiting For It To Click?

I hear it all time. People tell me they are waiting for it to "click". They are waiting for something to happen in their head that lets them figure it all out. It will be that moment that their weight loss struggle will be over.

Good Luck I say.

It is not going to click if you're sitting and waiting. Most things click when people start doing.

Think about it.................. A pen doesn't click unless you press the button.
Your mouse doesn't click unless you press a button.

And your weight loss efforts won't click into place until you start doing something.

So if you're waiting for this to click.................keep taking actions to start that clicking.

Hopefully I pushed your buttons.

Got the day off?

Hey it's a holiday here in the US - Martin Luther King Day.

Do you have the day off? If so how about researching a new recipe for a dinner very soon? When you finish reading this entry go do a search. Try something new this week. A new food. A new recipe. A new recipe using an old favorite. It's really easy, let's say your favorite food is chocolate. Just go to google and type lowfat chocolate recipes

Or perhaps research a new exercise or outdoor club that gathers in your area? Isn't it always good to find a great way to get moving?

So if you have the day off, commit to spending a little extra time on your weight efforts. And if you're working, do it anyway. Just don't get caught.

Have fun with this one!

Did you try the?

Did you try the _____________?

Well you fill in the blank.

Have you ever found yourself at a party where people are just asking if you tried this that and the other thing. Well last night it was clams casino, pea soup, ham, crab cakes, stuffed mushrooms, tortellini, desserts, cream puffs, and a host of other things.

It also happened at my own house.

"Yes I tried them all. Every single one of them", I responded.

At one point or another in my life!!!! Just not last night. Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone. But at least I didn't lie. Truth be told, I ate very little last night.

In the end, I had a blast watching my guests eat, drink and be merry last night.

And that was the best part of the evening.......Catching up with people I have not seen in a very long time.

What's the best part of your social life?

The %#*%&# Salad!

Classic Cafe
Mixed field greens & romaine lettuce topped with vine-ripened tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions & our balsamic vinaigrette.

I'm having lunch with a colleague today. We're meeting at a Panera. I love Panera. I also have a party at my house tomorrow night. So with that in mind I thought I would do soup and salad today. The description is above.

Or maybe not. I went to Panera's website and found out this salad has 37g of fat!!!!!!!

Have you ever had surprises like this?

Feeding Time 4:30

It was feeding time for the Big Cats.

Last April when I was in Africa I had the joy of visiting a rescue project for some "Big Cats" of the bush.

The cats are very conditioned. They see cars pull up. They see spectators milling about. They know it is feeding time.

When is your feeding time? And is it because you are hungry or because it is time?

How about a recipe

Thought I'd toss a recipe at you today. It's a quick and easy one.

Buy a package of those frozen Rosemary Potatoes.
Scramble them up with a couple of eggs and some spinach.

It's dinner in under 5 mintes. And it's a hell of a lot healthier than some of those other choices you had in mind.

Well I Thought It Was Yogurt

I'm back! Did you miss me? I was off at a Professional Development seminar for 4 days.

The education was great. The people were great. I have never attended a National Speakers Association event and been disappointed. Food was provided.

Day one: I arrive at breakfast and see lots of fruit, cereals, yogurts, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and whole grain breads. I'm thinking this will be easy. I see a yogurt parfait. Yogurt and fruit topped with granola. I decide on that and some scrambled eggs.

Well I Thought It Was Yogurt! It was actually whipped cream. Delicious whipped cream. Now what do I do? It's Day One. Is this a sign of weakness to come?

Doesn't matter what I did. What would you do; because isn't this all about you.

And answer truthfully..................remember, when you lie your stomach grows.

Day 3 - Are you still excited?

It's Day 3. Are you still excited?

Heard an interesting "idea" yesterday.

A woman told me she suspends her gym membership during the month of January. She hates having to wait for the machines and she figures by February the crowds will be gone.

Now I have to say I thought this was one of the most original ideas I have heard in a long time.

Are you one of the people she is referring to?

Tuesday, January 02, 2007

Day 2 - Are you still on track?

It's Day 2; are you still on track? Did you get up at 4:00 AM to exercise at home or get to the gym? Did you pack your lunch? Did you already down 7 glasses of water? Was your breakfast just the lightest, lowest-fat thing you could find? Have you turned down any sweet that was offered to you? Have you had that little talk with yourself; you know the one; the one that includes the phrase (or something simliar to) "this time I'm going to do it."

Let me ask you three quick questions:
  1. Are you about to take the same approach you did the last time you tried to lose weight and keep it off?
  2. Did it work? That was the polite version. What I really wanted to say was "Are you still fat?"
  3. Do you think you should consider a different approach?

Monday, January 01, 2007

So?

So, are you starting your diet today? Are you running to the gym today? Are you cleaning all the crappy food out of the fridge? Do you know someone who is taking those steps today?

It's January 1, 2007 and the "resolution crowd" is about to jump on board with the rest of you who never stopped taking care of yourself. Welcome them with open arms and perhaps some advice.

Happy New Year my Skinnies!!!
